Legendary player Ronaldo wore the famous number 7 jersey for 8 years at Real Madrid. Following Raúl's departure, Ronaldo was given the number 7 shirt for Madrid before the 2010–11 season. Initially, he was using number 9 in LaLiga. 

After Ronaldo 's departure, who was wearing that number in Real? 

We have seen many great players shining in the number 7 jersey at Real. Few of those names are Emilio Butragueno(1984-1995, 11 years), Juanito(played more than 400 games during his more than ten years with the team, winning five La Liga championships, two Copas del Rey, and two UEFA Cups), Raul Gonzalez (13 of his 16 seasons with Real, he made at least 40 appearances in all competitions, wore the number seven for 14 of those years). 

But, what happened after Ronaldo left? 

The number 7 was given to Mariano Díaz, who has played around 60 matches and scored only 7 goals. Mariano was born in Spain to a Spanish father and a mother from the Dominican Republic. He has been part of Real Madrid since 2012, with Real Madrid C team. 

In the 2016-17 season, he made it into the senior team. He played only 14 matches that season with the team though. He went to French club Lyon in the next season, scoring 18 goals from 34 league games. This made Real bring him back. His second tenure was not so successful. In 5 years, he has played only 83 matches. The 29 year old is ending his contract this season and preparing to leave the club. 

On 7 June 2019, Eden Hazard joined Real Madrid and started using number 7. Hazard, who joined for a second most expensive player after Gareth Bale, but struggled throughout his 4 seasons. Hazard came as one of the best and most creative players, but suffered many injuries and lack of form. He has played just 75 matches, including 53 league matches, scoring just 7 goals. 

We have to wait and see if any player would prefer to wear that number in the future.
