Manu Bhaker's pistol malfunction during 10-meter air pistol qualification at the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday.
During the qualifying round, Bhaker's gun malfunctioned after the 16th shot. At this point, the teenager had 44 shots left over the next 55 minutes. Due to repairs, the forced breakout meant that he finally had to complete the qualifying round in 38 minutes.
Bhaker was in fourth place at the time of the disruption. By the time the second series of 10 shots were over, most of her competitors were in their fourth series. The Olympic rules do not make up for the lost time in such a scenario.
After Bhaker's gun failed during the 10-meter air pistol qualification, Repich posted that he had spoken to an event judge at the Asaka shooting range. He was surprised that the gun was not taken to the company's repair area rather Pandit(Bhaker's Coach) fixed it himself.
NRAI issued a note to Francesco Repich, owner of Swiss arms manufacturer Morini, for his critical comments on the performance of Indian riflemen in Tokyo and the malfunction of the gun on Sunday, which became the prime reason for Bhaker's elimination.
