Ever had a UTI?
Well, they're so painful and annoying Urinary Tract Infections are extremely common, especially for vulvas as the urethra is much shorter than in a penis, and therefore it's easier for bacteria to enter. Among the most common cause of UTIs is E. coli bacteria. These bacteria usually live harmlessly in our gut but can cause infections if they get into the bladder or other parts of the urinary tract.
Sex can increase the likelihood of UTI's because often this bacteria that tends to be present around the anal region can get pushed towards the urethra as a result of all the friction and movement in the genital area during sexual activity. In fact, UTIs after sex are such a common occurrence among women that one of the nicknames for UTIS is "honeymoon cystitis" (cystitis is the medical term for inflammation of the bladder)
UTIs can cause a bunch of painful symptoms like a burning sensation during peeing, and abdominal pain, and if it gets more severe, even fever, vomiting etc - so it's worth seeing a doctor as they tend to be easily treated with medication and you deserve relief!
Somethings that can help prevent UTIs: drink lots of water, pee before and after sex - it can help flush out bacteria; wash your butt before sex. When you urinate or wash yourself, always wipe from front to back, never back to front- you want to always avoid wiping bacteria from the anus toward the vagina. If switching between anal and vaginal sex, always change condoms. If fingering or licking the anus and then the vagina, wash your hands/wash your mouth first.🤌
