Darwin Nunez has just put in a phenomenal performance as Liverpool have thrashed Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield. The 23-year-old scored two brilliant headers and was a constant threat throughout. He is brilliant when the side plays on the counter-attack and he was afforded a lot of space in behind tonight from United’s midfield and defence. That performance will just boost his confidence even more and it seems that Liverpool have found their front three as Mohammed Salah and Cody Gakpo were also sensational. Nunez was signed for £80 million in the summer which raised a lot of eyebrows, including those of Liverpool supporters. However, it is important to remember he is young and possesses a lot of potential. The fact Jurgen Klopp is also building his new squad is an exciting proposition for the player.
The Uruguayan scored 36 goals for Benfica last season and attracted a lot of interest in the summer. He has scored 12 goals this season and has received a fair bit of criticism in the footballing fraternity. The main criticism that has been labelled at him is that he is too rash in front of goal. To an extent this has proved to be accurate and Nunez has been responsible for poor finishing. He will need to improve on this but the fact Liverpool create so many chances mean that there will be a larger margin of error. However, in the crucial games, a side needs to take their chances therefore this is definitely an area which needs working on.
