Why "detransitioners" aren't an issue
The increasing popularity of self-proclaimed "detransitioners" has been an increasing movement. These individuals began to transition from their assigned gender at birth to another, only to realize that they felt most connected with their original gender. Conservatives are using this movement as an argument against granting minors access to sex-changing hormones- why is this not a valid argument?
Everyone has their own journey with gender. A major concern of parents of transgender children is that they'll grow up and realize they made a "mistake-" yet, the individuals in the movement don't support this idea themselves. Though they wish they hadn't gone through with their own transition, they support the community that supported them through their changes.
Transphobic communities shouldn't use this movement as a reason to push back against pro-trans laws being pushed- rather, the movement should be used to promote exploration of gender identities. Even if people decide that it wasn't the right choice for them, it's important to have that choice and feel respected and cherished in communities because of your journey.
