Since Eden Hazard’s €100 million move to Real Madrid, the Belgian star hasn’t made an impact at the club in his four years so far. The former Chelsea man has made only 72 appearances for Real Madrid, scored seven and assisted 11.
Compared to the standards he showed at Chelsea, these are terrible numbers for Hazard. In his last season at Chelsea, he recorded 31 goal contributions (15 goals, 16 assists) in the league alone and scored a brace in the Europa League final.
At the moment, Real Madrid are willing to cut their losses with Eden Hazard and would let him go for a reasonable offer price. Hazard has fallen massively down the pecking order at Madrid.
A player that was given the iconic number seven jersey of Ronaldo and Raul and brought in to replace the former, finds himself out of favor at the club. Despite his glorious Chelsea career, he would be remembered as a Real Madrid flop.
With his Real Madrid contract slowly ending, the question is why Hazard failed at Madrid.
For starters, Hazard’s failure at the club started from the first day of preseason. The Belgian attacker was reportedly overweight when he returned to the club for pre-season. As a result, there were worries in the mind of fans about his commitment to the club and his seriousness towards the club.
At Chelsea, there were talks of Hazard never showing his 100 per cent in training and saving it for the match instead. At Real Madrid, with established, hardworking professionals, fans were shocked to see him not train well and labelled lazy. As such, he never had them on his side from the start.
