Amidst the festive excitement and preparation, there's a special corner given to Bhang in Holi.
The connection between Holi and Bhang is quite old and profound.
Bhang is mixed with Thandai a Holi drink which is as popular as ghujiya.
But why do people love bhang so much?
The reasons may vary as some connect it with Lord Shiva while others call it a relaxing drink.
The old tales narrate a story that describes Lord Shiva's love for cannabis.
Many devotees consume Bhang during Mahashivratri and it is believed to be Lord Shiva's favourite food.
Although there's another story that explains the penchant for bhang.
After the self-immolation of Sati, Lord Shiva's wife, he went into deep meditation but Parvati (reincarnation of Sati) wanted to enter Shiva's life and hence she beseeched Kamadev to help her.
Kamadev struck an arrow at lord Shiva alluring him in Parvati's love.
Hence, Lord Shiva came back to earth after falling for Parvati and it is believed that he returned to the real world on Holi day which was celebrated with his favourite bhang.
With these beliefs and mythologies, Holi is never celebrated without a glass of Bhang drink.
