Why Does Chelsea Ann Manalo Have a Filipino Surname If Her Farther Was An American?

There are many possible answers.  I will go through a few of them and reveal the real reason at the end.

First, America is a melting pot of all cultures and thus any last name can be an American last name.  There are Filipinos by blood who are American by birth.  In such a case an American with the last name Malano can be born.

Second, her father passed away and was raised by her step dad.  She may have been adopted and took on his last name.

Third, her mother and father were never married and so she has her mother's surname instead of her father's.

The real reason is related to the third option.  Her mother and father separated and her father has since passed away.  As to why she was given her mother's surname instead of her father's is a matter of speculation.

Chelsea Ann Manalo, a 25 year old black Filipino American will be representing the Philippines at the 2024 Miss Universe Pageant in Mexico.
