More than 119.3 million Americans board aircraft, plan road trips, and board buses to visit vacation locations or their relatives each year, making December the busiest month for travel in the US, according to AAA.

On a weekday between December 4 and December 14 is the best time to travel. Christmas Day and New Year's Day have the least amount of traffic, but the days after and before these holidays have a lot of traffic and a chance of icy roads.
