Brilliantly articulated! Elizabeth Bennet is indeed one of the most important and iconic characters in English literature.
Elizabeth Bennet, the headstrong and outspoken protagonist of the 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, was well ahead of her time. Her untameable nature and moral obligation to question everything that was deemed "acceptable" in her time is still relevant to every woman out there, even today.
Her unfiltered wit and fearlessness to challenge antecedent social stratifications placing woman in a disparaging and compliant light, inspires me. The strength she displayed when she decided to stand against the flow of society is a perfect example of how a society can put illogical responsibilities on women and why it is absolutely necessary to break those chains.
When compelled to choose a financially secure married life with Mr. Collins, she declines. She wouldn't fret being called a "spinster." She is intelligent and challenges what she feels is out of line. In this case, a loveless union.
To her, the foundation of marraige is love and she is not here to accept otherwise.
Elizabeth, very well, represents a contemporary feminine individual who, very often, is powerfully bound by social obligations, yet risks choosing otherwise.
