Well Said
Emoticons got very big in the 1990s. Those were the days of Yahoo or AOL Instant Messengers.
Then came the efforts at universalising emotions. It was in reality an effort at corporatising emotions.
We will have some more sophisticated signs and even more lectures on the creativity of emoticons coming our way soon.
Emojis could be wonderful, wonderous, awe-inspiring little hits. But emotions are bigger than their emojis representation.
Don't forget that emotions are big, slippery, awkward, unique things. What are people doing here? Fitting emotions into this corporate and pre-ordained system-- mission impossible!
Expression of emotions can't be equated with means of production. Emotions are complete only when they are expressed to suit them in a way each person finds it right.
