Kieran Tierney has been linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer and this would be a smart move for his career. The 25-year-old is at the peak of his powers and has been at Arsenal since 2019. The Scotsman came through the youth system at Celtic and became established properly in 2016 when he became a key part of Celtic’s side. Tierney joined Arsenal in 2019 and has been fantastic for them. In Mikel Arteta’s early days at the club, Tierney was at times the only Arsenal player who was not criticised by the fans. The fans respected his work-rate and passion and Arteta trusted him to start week in week out for him.
He was eventually awarded with the captain’s armband and the Arsenal fans welcomed this move as he had a really good connection with the fans. Before this season, this is a trait one could not associate with many Arsenal players as there was quite a toxic environment at the club over the last few years. While Arsenal finished twice in Arteta’s first two seasons, Tierney generally played well and all the good things the side did came from him on the left. He has a terrific range of passing and possesses good physical qualities as a left back. He also showed good leadership skills however this was difficult to see as the rest of the team were not putting in performances like the Scotsman.
Last season was when people really started to appreciate the player. Arsenal improved massively and made a serious bid for a place in the top four. They fell short and finished fifth however Tierney was again putting in good performances consistently. The club are currently flying at the top of the league this season however Tierney is not getting a sniff when it comes to game-time. Oleksander Zinchenko was signed from Manchester City in the summer and he has established himself as the starting left-back at Arsenal. The Ukrainian deserves huge credit and is one of the main factors for Arsenal’s success this season.
