Coinciding with groups of women protesting the plight of women in Afghanistan, the Taliban government for the first time issued a message on the occasion of International Women's Day, saying the Islamic Emirate was committed to addressing women's issues.
But the short message, issued by the Taliban Foreign Ministry, states that the Taliban provide women in Afghanistan with the ease of living in accordance with Islam and "according to accepted customs."
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted on March 8 that the Taliban was committed to "granting the religious rights of all Afghan women."
"International Women's Day is a better opportunity for Afghan women to demand their religious rights," she added.
