In fact, a report in Dainik Jagran claims that the Bollywood superstar had given Gambhir a blank cheque in order to tie him to the role for the next 10 years.

Gambhir would have hoped to stay longer at KKR on his return, but he wouldn't have imagined being in contention to become India's next head coach.

Gambhir is the third-most successful captain in IPL history, winning two titles with KKR during his seven-year stay. The left-hander guided KKR to two IPL finals and won both of them.

Becoming India's head coach is a once in a lifetime opportunity and the former opener is well aware of that. He doesn't want to let this opportunity pass.
