Women's T20 World Cup Prize Money to See Major Increase
The 2024 Women's T20 World Cup, starting October 3 in the UAE, will feature a significant rise in prize money. The winners will receive USD 2.34 million, a 134% increase from the USD 1 million awarded to Australia in 2023. The total prize pool for the tournament is USD 7.95 million, up 225% from USD 2.45 million last year.
This boost aligns with the ICC's commitment to providing equal prize money for men’s and women’s T20 World Cups, following the decision made in June 2023. The winners of the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup, India, were awarded USD 2.45 million earlier this year. The discrepancy is due to the men's tournament featuring 20 teams compared to 10 in the women's event.
Additionally, the runners-up in the women's tournament will receive USD 1.17 million, and the losing semi-finalists will get USD 675,000. Each of the ten participating teams is guaranteed USD 112,500.
The ICC has also updated the schedule for October 5 in Sharjah. The fixtures now have Australia facing Sri Lanka in the afternoon and England playing Bangladesh in the evening, a swap from the original timetable.
