World Cup 2024: Australia are Knocked Out of the Tournament
Before the T20 World Cup began, Australia were considered one of the favorites to lift the title, and rightly so. They had T20 superstars like David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins in their ranks, and no one would've thought that they would see this day. Australia have been knocked out of the T20 World Cup.
Australia were grouped with India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh for the Super-8s. With only one traditionally strong team in the group, Australia were expected to find their way to the Semi Finals. But Afghanistan had other plans. Australia began their journey with a comfortable victory over Bangladesh. But to everyone's surprise, they were infamously defeated by Afghanistan on Sunday, making their win against India an utmost necessity. Last evening, Australia fell short of India's target by 24 runs. With just 1 win in 3 games, Australia relied on Bangladesh to defeat Afghanistan in the last Super-8s match in order to qualify for the Semis. But that was not to happen.
A few hours back, Afghanistan registered a nail-biting victory over the Bangla Tigers, marking Australia's exit from the World Cup. Mitchell Marsh had said to the media after their loss to India last evening, "Disappointing. It happens in the game of cricket. In the course of 40 overs, there are a lot of small margins. India were the better team, Rohit is a class player. (On Head and Maxwell's batting) Gave us more belief than hope. In a run chase like that if you keep it at 10 an over, we are in the game. India's bowlers were too good though in the end. Come on, Bangladesh now!"
