Yellow faces. They don’t seem like much but since the pandemic raised it’s ugly head, social gatherings became a thing of the past. Social media has now become the greatest medium of communication. From finding vials of remdesivir to just sending a reassuring virtual ‘hug’, social media has proven its worth these trying times. And emojis are a great tool when it comes to this medium.
Emojis transcend language barriers, convey emotions that are hard to put through words, and are just fun in general. During the pandemic, when it is risky to go around meeting people, and texts don’t suffice, emojis like 🤗 and ❤️ provided the virtual support and love that we missed. Emojis like 😷 and 🦠 were widely used and reflected COVID culture. The vaccination stage of the pandemic sees the rise in the usage of 💉 , let’s hope we see vaccinations on a rise in reality too, and that we can leave a weaker coronavirus behind us.
