World Heart Day is celebrated on 29th September every year around the globe.
On this day, let’s pledge to get to know about a factor that’s often overlooked while considering the things that are essential to keep our heart functioning well— MENTAL HEALTH.
Researches have shown that Mental Health is one the main contributor that often leads to chronic stress that furthermore leads to strokes and heart diseases.
A person with healthy mind will have a healthy heart, hence Emotional Wellbeing equals Healthy Heart.
A study found that Mental Stress at work may increase the risk of stroke. Another research found that those who reported the highest level of emotional problems were at the greatest risk for a stroke.
Mental stress cause by Overthinking is also another factor that can impact your heart as well.
So what can we do to achieve a healthy mind that will result in a healthy heart.
1. Slow Down : Take time to slow the pace of life down by looking after ourselves first.
2. Meditate : It doesn't matter what kind you choose to do, just do what works for you even if it’s sitting quietly in a corner for 5 minutes to unwind.
3. Breathe : Focus attention on inhaling & exhaling. Do it sitting, standing or lying down. Each time we breathe we come back to the present moment.
4. Good Food : Healthy food can lower inflammation in our body & less sugar can reduce feelings of being on edge, anxiety and agitation.
5. Move & Stretch : By just moving our body we can relieve feelings of overwhelm and by gently stretching we can remove tensions from our muscles that helps us sleep better.
6. Go Outside : Take a walk, go to a local park or sit out on a balcony. Just explore and breathe the fresh air.
7. Music : Put on some calming music. It helps in improving our emotions and soothes our body.
