He picked up seven wickets in 34.1 overs and helped his side knock over India on 315 to win the game by 48 runs. He finished with 12 wickets in the match and was named the player of the match.

The second game of the four-match Test series between India and Australia was held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. India batted first and got bundled out on 189, thanks to Nathan Lyon. The Australian spinner displayed his mastery and picked up eight wickets, giving away 50 runs in 22.2 overs. These are his best figures in Test cricket.

The third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Indore was over in three days, thanks to a sensational bowling performance from Nathan Lyon. India were dismissed on 163 in their second innings as Lyon spun a web around the hosts. He bowled outstandingly and never allowed the Indian batters to get away. He finished with figures of 8/64 as he single-handedly won the Test match for his country.
