Xiaomi announced the launch of its debut electric vehicle - the SU7 sedan.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun, during a livestream, made direct comparisons with the Tesla Model 3 and said the car will be available in Chinese cities by May.
The Xiaomi SU7 has a claimed zero to hundred kilometres per hour timing of 2.78 seconds and a maximum speed of 265 kilometres per hour. Its dual motors have a claimed 637 horsepower and 838 newton metres of peak turbo. All of these figures are attributed to the top model that will be powered by 800 volt architecture, just like Tesla's new Cybertruck. Xiaomi claims a range of between 700 and 900 kilometres depending on the trim level you choose.
The sedan is five metres long, two metres wide and has a wheelbase of three metres. Xiaomi says that its "elegant and low stance" helps it get a drag coefficient of 0.195, which is the best in its class. The company had already announced three colour options when the vehicle was first shown during MWC 2024 in Barcelona. The major electronics manufacturer today added six colours to that list, taking the total number of options to nine.
Some of the key design features highlighted by the company include water drop headlights, halo tail lights, active rear spoiler, "flowing curve," and a hidden door handle. The car runs on Xiaomi's Hyper OS, which is a system of operating systems that will help better integrate Xiaomi phones, tablets, home devices and now, electric vehicles. The car also comes with many high-tech features like a wraparound cockpit with multiple screens, driver assistance features and more.
The base model of the Xiaomi SU7 comes with a 73.6 kWh battery that Xiaomi says is good for 700 kilometres of range. It will have a maximum speed of 210 kilometres per hour and will start at 215,900 Chinese Yuans or about Rs 24,90,413. Then comes the SU7 Pro model that will come with a 94.3 kWh battery that the company claims is good for 830 kilometres of range. That will start at 245,900 yuan or Rs 28,36,464.
