Yes, sex has no expiry date! Here is why
Sex has no expiry date. We remain sexual beings’ life-long.
As we grow old, sex becomes even more vital to our mental wellbeing. That’s because, it’s only when we grow old, we finally realise the truth about sex: that the biggest sex organ in our body is the brain.
But then why do we yuck the sexual feelings and needs of the elderly?
Brain craves intimacy in old age more than at any point in life. But unfortunately, for many old people, their life and circumstances would have changed. Some would not even have a partner anymore.
For those who have one, strait-laced children, who can never imagine their parents having sex, can play spoilsport. In many homes, elderly couples are forced to live in separate houses to appease their kids, with little regard for their parents' emotional needs and desires. What are they even thinking? That people will suddenly forget about sex when they cross 60? 70? or even 80?
Unless you have some serious health issues--uncontrolled diabetes or heart problems--sex is something, which you can enjoy till the day you drop dead. It’s a part of your cradle—right from the day you are born out of your mother’s menstrual cycle—to grave identity.
Fortunately, we live in a culture that once acknowledged this philosophy, which is why in India we elevated sex into a life-goal ‘kama’, along with dharma (righteousness) and artha (economy), long before the West or medical science discovered the palliative significance of sex. Glad that our filmmakers are waking up to it too.
