Despite China's propaganda depicting life in Tibet as idyllic under its rule, a recent report by the London-based campaign group Free Tibet reveals a dark reality. Young Tibetans, seeking to escape Tibet and go into exile, are falling victim to Chinese human traffickers. Instead of reaching India as promised, they end up trafficked and held for ransom in lawless Myanmar.
The report exposes the criminal network that preys on these Tibetan youth. It all started when eight students were promised safe passage to India by a Chinese businessman. However, four of them ended up detained by Chinese authorities when the businessman changed his terms.
The remaining four students were taken to Myanmar, where they were handed over to a criminal organization. They were kept in captivity, and a ransom of over 1,000,000 RMB was demanded for their release. When the family paid, the criminals demanded more for expenses.
The survivor's escape sheds light on the harrowing conditions endured by these young Tibetans, some of whom are subjected to torture, murder tests, and forced recruitment into the trafficking network. This alarming situation underscores the urgency of addressing human trafficking and the plight of Tibetans seeking refuge.
