"There's a lot of stereotype that Muslim women are mistreated," says Zara Mohammed, who, at the age of 29, became the Muslim Council of Britain's youngest and first female secretary general in January. "I've come to help shattered that perception." Mohammed, who was born and raised in Glasgow and now represents the UK's largest diverse Muslim umbrella organisation, is eager to show her peers – and the rest of the world – that young people can lead, "and women can surely lead, too." "Don't define us unless we define ourselves," she adds. "We'll be the ones to say who we are and what we stand for," says the group.
