It seems that Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has finally come around to publicly denouncing government censorship on his company’s apps.
In a recent letter to the House Judiciary Committee, Zuckerberg stated that he believes that the government pressure for them to quote censor content in 2021 was wrong and that they should have been more outspoken.
He also mentioned that they, quote, shouldn't have demoted the Hunter Biden laptop story. And will cease funding for electoral infrastructure that heavily leaned left.
It seems that the tides are turning. No longer are the CEOs of the largest social media platforms caving to government pressure. Of course, Zuckerberg can only prove his commitment to free speech and free press through his actions, not just his words. But if his recent statements are any indication, we may soon see a social media landscape that is more fair for everyone, regardless of political party.
